MP criticises Congress for meeting Pravin Togadia
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi urged people from the Muslim community not to watch the film Padmavat, even as he criticised the Centre for failing to consult the community before tabling the bill against instant triple talaq, but constituting a panel of historians and former royals to review the film
Addressing a public meeting at the Tahafuz-e-Shariat in Hanamkonda on Wednesday night, Mr. Owaisi said, “The youth will go to watch a dirty and disgusting film. No, you shouldn't go.” He urged the youth to create history by excelling in education and knowledge of the faith. “We were not consulted when a law was made against us. Nobody was called. Mr. Modi said that I want the law. And when it came to a movie, a useless movie, a fictitious story by a Muslim gentleman, they did not want it to be released,” he said.
Mr. Owaisi said that the Rajput community was showing the Muslim community 'a mirror' at a time when the Sharia was being ‘looted’.
The Hyderabad parliamentarian criticised the Congress for meeting Vishwa Hindu Parishad international working president Pravin Togadia. “He has said a lot about our Prophet, Quran and our faith and yet they went to meet him,” Mr. Owaisi pointed out.
Lashing out at the Centre for seeking to criminalise instant triple talaq, he said, “You should have spoken about reconciliation. This law will make men go to jail and women will be on the streets. This law is to fill jails with Muslim men,” he said.
Quoting scriptures, he advised men to treat their wives well and that wives have a right over husband's income. “Be nice to wives. Be nice at home,” he said.
