Who is Homai Vyarawalla featured in today's Google Doodle?

Homai Vyarawalla's 104th birthday

Google on Saturday paid tribute to Homai Vyarawalla, India's first woman photojournalist, with a Doodle.
Vyarawalla was known for widely photographing India's transition from the British Raj to an independent country after its subsequent partition.

Hailing from Navsari in Gujarat, Vyarawalla moved to Bombay to pursue a diploma at St Xavier's College before moving on for further studies at the JJ School of Arts. She was introduced to photography by her husband Manekcshaw Vyarawala, a photographer at The Times of India.
Vyarawala went to work with the British Information Services and was a familiar sight in Delhi, sari-clad, traveling from one end of the city to the other on a cycle. She believed that the key to a good photograph is timing, composition and angle. "There are 15 people taking a photograph at the same time each has his own style But there's only one who gets the right moment and the right angle," she said in an interview to The Hindu.
Her contributions as a photo-journalist include the immortalising moment when the first flag was on Red Fort on August 15, 1947, the departure of the last Viceroy, Lord Mountbatten from the country, and the funerals of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Vyarawala also photographed Queen Elizabeth's and former United States president, Dwight Eisenhower's visits to India.
She was awarded Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award in India in 2011. She passed away at the age of 98 in 2012 in Vadodara, Gujarat.

Richie Movie Review

Image result for richie movie
Richie is another remake in Tamil, this time it’s Rakshit Shetty’s Kannada film Ulidavaru Kandanthe that gets the Kollywood treatment. Directed by Gautham Ramachandran, this is a neo-noir crime film, set in a small fishing village. The film has been in the news for being Malayalam superstar Nivin Pauly’s first (proper) Tamil film. Nivin is very popular in Tamil Nadu as his iconic love story Premam ran for 257 days in Chennai theatres and later, his Malayalam films too found a market in the state.
With Richie, Nivin Pauly has dared to take the road less travelled, by doing an off-beat Tamil film without any commercial trappings. The basic premise follows the Rashamon Effect (named after Akira Kursova’s cult classic Rashamon (1950), where an incident is given different interpretations as viewed by the persons involved). The director seems also to be influenced by the Quentin Tarantino and Clint Eastwood schools of filmmaking.

The film begins with an investigative journalist, Megha (Shraddha Srinath), trying to convince her editor to give her a bigger spread in the newspaper to report the sensational murders that have taken place in the coastal village of Manapad, near Thoothukudi. She has travelled to the village to piece together the evidence of the crime, all of which leads her to Richie (Nivin Pauly), who different people have differing perspectives of.
Richie, as an adolescent, had stabbed a boy to death and served a seven-year jail term. Now out of jail, he makes a living as the henchman of a boat owner and local businessman, Annachi (GK Reddy). Richie’s father (Prakash Raj) is a priest at the local parish; that he wasn't supported by his father and best friend during a critical juncture in his life continues to irk Richie.
Some see Richie as a kind-hearted friend, others loathe him. All of them are victims of circumstances. The romance between a fisher-woman Philomena (Lakshmipriya) and a boat mechanic Selva (Natty Natraj), the story of Raghu (Raj Bharath) — a childhood friend of Richie's, are all interwoven into the plot.

Nivin Pauly makes a decent Kollywood debut with his swagger and screen presence, though his Tamil dialogue delivery needs to improve. The director narrates the film as different chapters, like in a Tarantino film. One of the plus points is the music of Ajaneesh Loknath, retained from the original Kannada version, which is in sync with the narration (though at times it is a bit loud). Richie has a runtime of only 110 minutes, but looks stretched — especially the pre-interval section where Nivin Pauly appears only for 15 minutes. It is the second half of the film which tries to connect all the dots. The motives of all the characters are half-baked and there are some unanswered questions. For a rural local, Richie inexplicably speaks in perfect English at times. For audiences fed a steady diet of commercial cinema, this film — devoid of the massy entertainment elements — may come across as a dark and dreary.

Nia Sharma, one of the big stars of India’s small screen and web series platform, has been adjudged Asia’s second sexiest woman by London-based weekly newspaper Eastern Eye.
She lost the top spot to Priyanka Chopra, but finished a position ahead of last year’s winner Deepika Padukone.
However, she isn’t the one to take professional rivalry to heart. Nia Sharma congratulated Priyanka with an open heart and the Quantico star also responded with enthusiasm.

The rest of the top 10 include Drashti Dhami (6), Katrina Kaif (7), Shraddha Kapoor (8), Gauahar Khan (9) and Rubina Dilaik (10). The oldest in the list is 54-year-old Sridevi (49), who is one of two editor’s choices in the 2017 list.

Nia Sharma is quite a regular on reality shows. Recently, she was seen in Khatron Ke Khiladi. She is also known for making bold statements on social media through her photos.
In February, she was criticised for putting up pictures on Instagram by some users, but her answer owned them. She said, “It was so silly. The comments were as trivial as they were trash. It is a shame that I have to explain myself. I didn’t intend to make headlines when I put up the post, but thanks for the publicity.”
Nia Sharma has appeared on shows such as Ek Hazaron Mei Meri Behna Hai and Jamai Raja.

STOP! Drinking Too Much Water Can Literally Kill You!

STOP! Drinking Too Much Water Can Literally Kill You!

Time and again we are warned about the dangers of drinking too little water and about the risks of dehydration. From water reminder apps to stories recommended 8 glasses of water a day, we are bombarded with information on the importance of adequate water intake.
But there are some who warn us against drinking too much water. Is it really possible to drink too much water or is this another health myth?

Is There Such A Thing As Excess Water Intake?
"Excessive water intake can pose a serious health risk, as it causes electrolyte imbalances, resulting in a condition called hyponatremia - this can even be fatal"
We all know that it's important to drink water, but it is apparently possible to go too far. Yes, there's even a medical term for the condition that results from water intake and it's called hyponatremia or water intoxication.
Although rare, there have been cases of water intoxication in which an individual consumes too much water in a short span of time. This is dangerous as it results in electrolyte imbalances, wherein levels of blood sodium or salt drop dangerously low.
This can cause liquid from the blood to move into the cells, resulting in swelling, that also causes swelling of the brain, leading to seizures and a coma. In extreme cases, it can even cause death.
How To Deal With Water Intoxication?
"If you notice symptoms like headaches, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting soon after drinking a huge amount of water, seek immediate emergency medical care"
The most important thing to do in case of water intoxication is to seek emergency medical care. This makes it important to recognize the warning signs of water intoxication.
These symptoms are very similar to those experienced with a heatstroke and can include headaches, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting.
Before you start to panic and cut down on your water intake, just remember that you'd probably need to drink gallons of water to suffer water intoxication.
Instead, make it a habit to drink water frequently through the day, just one glass at a time!
