Rajnikanth to announce the first letter of his new party's name for 2018; to announce the next letters, one by one in the coming years

Chennai. In a sensational statement on 31st of December, superstar Rajnikanth has announced the first letter of his new political party’s name. The first letter coincidentally is R. The political pundits predict a sweeping victory for the R party in the future elections. R signifies Runaway success, one of them commented to Faking News.

PM Narendra Modi greets nation on new year, extends welcome to "New India Youth"

On his last Mann ki Baat for the year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the youth of the country who will turn 18 years of age in 2018 and become a voter.

Calling them the the "New India Youth", PM Modi said they will form the basis of new IndiaBSE -0.51 % which will be free of evils like corruption, casteism, corruption and terrorism.

He also proposed to constitute a mock parliament in every district where the youth will discuss and debate and ideate on the foundations of "New India".

"We could organize a Mock Parliament in every district of India, where the youth of 18 to 25 years of age sit together and discuss ideas to build a New India, find ways, make plans regarding how we could accomplish our goals by 2022 and build an India that our freedom fighters dreamt of," he said.

He also said that on the 15 August, a mock parliament can be organised in Delhi where youth elected from every district of India can participate.

"From skill development to innovation and entrepreneurship, our youth are excelling in all fields. It is now time that a system is created where newest development opportunities are easily accessible for the New India Youth as soon as they turn 18," he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished a happy new year to all saying "let us enter into the new year with such little achievements, begin our new year and take concrete steps in the journey from Positive India to Progressive India".

Stressing on gender equality, PM Modi said that his government has done away with the requirement of a male guardian accompanying a Muslim woman to Hajj.

"Till date, 1,300 women have applied to travel for the Haj without any Mahram," the Prime Minister said, adding that "they should get equal opportunity as the men get".

Superstar Rajinikanth enters politics, to contest all seats in 2021 Assembly polls

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth on Sunday announced that he would float a political party that would practice "spiritual politics" and contest in all of the state's 234 constituencies in the next Assembly polls in 2021.

Announcing his decision at a large gathering at Sri Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam in Chennai, Rajinikanth said his party will not be contesting in the local body elections as the time for that was less. He also said the decision to contest in the 2019 Parliamentary elections will be taken at an appropriate time.

This announcement ends the long-awaited suspense. Calling his entry as "compulsion of time", he categorically said that he was not entering politics for money or power, but to serve people and revive democratic values.

"If I was hungry for power, I would have entered politics in 1996", said Rajinikanth.

Rajinikanth urged his fans not to talk about politics or comment about other parties till his party is floated. He said the first task was to get many of his unregistered fan clubs registered with the parent body.

He said the politics in the country has gone very wrong. We are going to change the system, be transparent, spiritual-politics, said Rajinikanth. He appealed for cooperation and support from his fans.

In 1996, he defied AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa, asking people not to vote for her. "Even God can't save Tamil Nadu if the AIADMK is elected again" — his famous words still echo in the southern state. 'Amma' eventually lost the Assembly elections and the DMKregistered a landslide victory.

In the following political developments, he backed the DMK-TMC (Tamil Maanila Congress, led by the late GK Moopanar) combine, which also cashed in on the severe anti-incumbency against the ruling AIADMK. However, the combine could not keep the momentum on as AIADMK staged a good comeback in the 1998 parliamentary polls.

In the name of democracy politicians are robbing us of our own money on our own land. We need to bring a change from the base, said Rajinikanth .

Fellow actor Kamal Haasan has also hinted he was willing to work with Rajinikanth if the superstar ever decided to enter politics. Rajinikanth, who is referred as "Thalaivar" or "Ultimate Boss" by his fans, enjoys almost demigod status among his followers.

After Rajinikanth announced his entry into politics, various celebrities including megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan gave their best wishes to the Tamil superstar.

Rajinikanth who enjoys almost demigod status among his legion of followers, said he does not want cadres for his new party, but "watchdogs". "I will be the head of these watchdogs... We should rope in all people in every village. This is my first task for you. At an appropriate time before assembly polls, we shall explain our policies and promises," he said.

I will contest the state assembly polls in all the 234 constituencies in the upcoming polls.

I am not entering politics for money or fame. If I wanted power, I could have done it in 1996. But I did not want it then. When I was 45 I did not want it, would I want it now? I would be a fool if I did.

As a spiritual person I say, politics has become rotten. Democracy has worsened.

Recent events have shamed us, people from other states are laughing at us.

If I don't do this now, I will be failing in my duties to you. I would feel guilty if I do not do this now.

Everything has to be changed. The time for political change has come. System has to be changed, we will change it.

We need a spiritual politics, that is my goal, aim and intention.

I know this is not easy, it is like diving into the deep seas for pearls.

I have the blessings of God and support of people, I have that confidence.

People are being looted by politicians now. They come to power and they cheat people in several ways.

The party worker is the most important part of any party. But I don't want party workers, I want protectors. I want protectors who ensure that no one acts out of selfishness. I want protectors who hold leaders accountable. I am the representative of a a group of protectors.

Every corner of state should have our office, that is our first task. Till then, do not talk politics, including me. Don't talk about other politicians, don't protest.

Truth, hard work and success is our temple.

Our Army will be there in the upcoming state assembly elections.

Sydney, Australia

Crowd's await the fireworks on New Year's Eve on Sydney Harbour, with the summer sun above them.

With temperatures still hitting around 22 degrees at 8pm, Sydney is in for a warm night of late-night partying that will likely see way into 2018.

During the afternoon of New Year's Eve, aerobatic planes flew over the Sydney Harbour Bridge as part of the annual end-of-year celebrations on the harbour.

Throughout the afternoon, spectators waited with elation for the annual new year fireworks, many wearing bold foam headgear.

Edinburgh, Scotland

Edinburgh's Hogmanay festival opened with an iconic torchlight procession which also marked the start of Scotland's Year of Young People.

Around 20,000 people, including 17,000 torchbearers, took part in the procession down the Royal Mile, past Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament, with torchbearers spelling out "braw".

Thirty Vikings from Shetland's Up Helly Aa Festival were among those taking part, along with young people performing with the massed pipes and drums and people samba drumming.

The annual Hogmanay celebration was originally an informal street party focused on the Tron Kirk in the High Street of the Old Town. Since 1993, it has been officially organised with the focus moved to Princes Street.

The celebration now covers four days of processions, concerts and fireworks, with the street party beginning on Hogmanay. An estimated 25,000 people watched the procession this year.
